About A Virtual Bookcase

Welcome to A Virtual Bookcase, my little corner of the internet for books, mysteries and stories.

I’ve always been an avid reader and have blogged about books before, but these days I’m particularly drawn to crime fiction, mysteries and psychological thrillers. Give me an unexplained death, a collection of suspicious characters and a few carefully placed clues and I’m happy.

I’m also a self-confessed armchair detective. I’m usually busy deciding who I don’t trust, spotting things that might be clues and changing my mind several times before the end. Sometimes I work it out. Quite often the author is considerably cleverer than I am.

A Virtual Bookcase is where I’ll share the books I’ve been reading and what I genuinely thought of them. I’m not interested in dissecting a novel like an English Literature assignment. I want to talk about books as a reader: what kept me turning the pages, which characters stayed with me, whether the mystery had me fooled and, ultimately, whether I’d recommend it. And I’ll keep my reviews spoiler-free.

My love of books goes beyond reading them at home. I enjoy author talks and book events too, so there’ll be some of those experiences here along the way.

There’s another side to A Virtual Bookcase as well. Long before this version of the blog existed, I wrote fiction of my own. After quite a long break, I’m finding my way back to creative writing and developing new ideas and stories. This time, perhaps unsurprisingly, there may be a mystery or two involved.

A Virtual Bookcase is a place for sharing my love of a good story — whether I’m reading one, talking about one or attempting to write one myself.

Pull up a chair and have a rummage through the bookcase with me.
