A Virtual Bookcase

I was lucky to be able to attend an author talk and Q&A event with award-winning fantasy novelist Ben Aaronovitch at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket. I’m not the one that reads his books, that’s my adult son, who also shares my love of reading. This is the first time he has been to one of these events; for me I have been to a couple, however not to any authors that I read.

Ben talked about his latest Rivers of London book ‘Stone & Sky‘. I was aware of this particular book series as my son has the first three books of the collection and he talks about them. (A fun fact for Doctor Who fans, Ben wrote two Doctor Who stories too and my son owns these and got his favourite signed).

Although, I hadn’t read any of his books, I still found the event interesting and very inspiring. I love the honesty that authors share with readers (and inspiring writers) about their processes, their characters, the ups and downs of being an author. Many also spend time after the event signing books so fans can have a souvenir of the day. My son also got a picture too with Ben.

The John Peel Centre in Stowmarket was easy to get to by train, and located not too far from the station, and the town centre for a quick coffee and cake whilst we waited for the doors to open.
